Synopsis:
After the death of my mother and her Bonded, I was relieved to find my own Bonds.
I was sure everything would be okay if I had them.
It wasn’t.
The fate of our people is in my hands and I know we’re better off if I’m alone.
After five years on the run, I’m caught and dragged back to face the men I ran away from.
I thought I was doing the right thing. Now, I’m not so sure. North, Nox, Gryphon, Atlas, and Gabe may never forgive me but one thing is for sure. I won’t ever forgive myself.
Review:
“Leaving you was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. This pain is nothing compared to that.”
Broken Bonds by J. Bree is book one in the Bonds That Tie series. I feel like I’ve done myself wrong by writing the review so late for this book/series. I’ve already started book 4 at this point, so I want to talk about everything, but I have to remind myself it’s just the review for the first book.
I loved every minute of reading this book. I read it in a day because I couldn’t put it down. There is a lot of guessing and leading/world-building happening in book one that you kind of have to work past, but once you do it’s so worth it.
Oli is great. She’s strong, self-controlled, and I love her. I also loved everyone else in her bond from go. I’m so bad about not letting myself get wrapped up in the knowledge that it’s a HEA and I let myself love even the bad parts that I know I’m supposed to not like lol. All of the side characters as well so far have been good content and not too much felt like filler.
I will say, even though this is a review for book 1, I am still a tad bit annoyed that I am starting book 4 and I still don’t know all the details of her parent’s death/car crash. (You learn that very early, so it’s not a huge spoiler, as I try to avoid those.)
My only real complaint/concern I had was Sage. I don’t ever trust insta-friendships, they weird me out. Like erm no you don’t just sit down once and become best friends. I understand that they are bonding over being the excluded ones however, I still know females and that’s not 100% how this works. But it’s fine I got over it.
There is no spice in book 1 however, the series gets spicier with each book!
These books are so good I’ve been devouring them as fast as I can. Broken Bonds by J. Bree and the Bonds That Tie series will be highly recommended by me for anyone looking for a Why Choose and Fantasy novel!
